A Day Immersed in Sacred Sound

“Divine sound is the cause of all manifestation. The knower of the mystery of sound knows the mystery of the whole universe.” – Hazrat Inaya Khan

Yesterday Summer and l spent the entire day on a journey through the resonances of sacred sound- a full immersion into melody, vibration, story, and the unseen forces that move us.

Morning: Ethereal Melodies Under the Peppercorn Tree

We began our day under the peppercorn tree at Deb’s Park, swaying and snuggling to the celestial sounds of Dianna Lopez, Dream Crease, and Mia Doi Todd. Gosh—giggling while drawing the mango based on Mia’s song, listening as birds harmonized with Dianna’s guitar, bathing in her ancestral ballads and flute, playing with sun-dappled plants, swimming in a pool of love… it was a setting almost too ethereal to feel real.

Time folded in on itself, music becoming both the container and the current.

Evening: The Grand Organ’s Gravitational Pull

That night, we entered The First Congregational Church of Los Angeles for an experience of an entirely different realm: Kali Malone and Stephen O’Malley performing on the Grand Organ. According to the church’s website, this organ is one of the largest church pipe organs in the world, a composite of several organs joined together over many years, boasting a staggering total of 18,094 speaking pipes.

As the first note emerged, it was as if all of the silence in the world had been banished from existence. The sheer force of sound filled every crevice of space, every cell of my being. The vibrations so palpable, so absolute, that if any movement or sway came to surface in your body, you were immediately anchored back down.

The music created a gravitational force.

And I, feeling at the center of it all, was lovingly held by it. Physically, I was being drawn toward the core of the Earth, yet spiritually, I was suspended among the heavens. There was no place to go except exactly where the waves of sound carried me.

Each time the last notes of a piece faded, silence rushed back in, sudden and enveloping. It felt like the moment a breaching whale temporarily experiences the absence of water. There was a flash, a breath. Then, gladly submerged again, the next piece began.

The Alchemy of Sound

It amazes me that sound is both the foundation of creation and the animator.  It is both a stilling force and a moving force. It manifests matter, shaping the world with a vibrational blueprint, and it also imprints itself upon the manifested. In this way, we can produce and immerse ourselves in vibrations that re-write our physical blueprint.

In physics, sound is a mechanical wave that moves through air, water, and solid matter, transferring energy as vibration. Researchers have found that these vibrations influence biological systems in profound ways. For example, cymatics—the study of visible sound and vibration—shows how sound frequencies organize particles into geometric patterns. This suggests that sound has an intrinsic ability to shape matter itself.

On a biological level, studies on vibroacoustic therapy (which uses low-frequency sound vibrations) show that sound waves can reduce stress, improve circulation, and even accelerate physical healing. The work of Dr. Masaru Emoto, suggests that sound frequencies influence the structure of water molecules—a fascinating idea given that our bodies are composed of about 60% water.

Beyond the physical, sound also alters brainwave states. Binaural beats, for example, use slightly different frequencies in each ear to synchronize brainwave activity, guiding the mind into states of deep relaxation or heightened focus. The resonant frequencies of instruments like Tibetan singing bowls and pipe organs, like the ones I experienced, evoke similar effects, inducing meditative and transcendental states of consciousness.

It is a foundational truth that we have the power to immerse ourselves in frequencies that rewrite our physical and energetic blueprints.

We can reorient, heal, and transform through sound!

This day served as a holistic reminder of that truth. A holistic reminder of the glorious mysteries of this universe.

Can you recall a time where music or sound induced a meditative feeling, transcendental, or healing experience? Is there a particular song, sound, or artist that moves you both physically and spiritually? I’d love to hear your replies in the comments! જ⁀➴ ♡
