What You Wear Matters 🌿

In 2019 I was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease. Since then, I’ve discovered a myriad of simple preventative healthcare solutions. In recent years I’ve learned a lot about how the materials we wear affect our nervous system, our mood, and our energy field.

The Energetic Body and Prana/Qi/Ki

Our energy field is often referred to as the aura — this is the electromagnetic field that surrounds and informs our physical body. Informing essentially means that the aura or energetic body aids in the development of our physical body. You can think of the aura like an architectural blueprint. The blueprint is not the architecture but a mere projection for the architecture to be built upon. In terms of our health, this means that any symptoms of dis-ease in the body can be seen in the aura, or the energy field.

Prana, Qi, or Ki are various terms for the life force energy that animates us and gives function to our bodies. This life force can be moved, it can go stagnant or get stuck, it can be weak, or it can be strong. When prana flows freely we are like a moving river; healthy, sharp-minded, and mobile. When prana is not flowing freely we are like a stagnant creek; sluggish, slow, and disease festering.

By bringing awareness to the energetic body we can observe and trace various indicators of health. From there, we can support our healing with the use of frequencies!

Frequency (n.): the rate at which a vibration occurs that constitutes a wave, either in a material (like sound) or an electromagnetic field (like light or radio), usually measured in cycles per second (Hz).

Heidi Yellen and the Frequencies of Fabrics

In 2003, researcher Heidi Yellen conducted a study on the frequencies of fabric. She found that the human body has a signature frequency of 100—identical to that of organic cotton. The study also showed that frequencies below 100 puts strain on the body. A diseased, nearly dead person has a frequency of about 15; Coincidentally, that is where polyester, rayon, and silk register. Conversely, if a fabric has a frequency higher than 100, it provides energy to the body. The frequency of linen is 5,000, as is wool, but Yellens’ study concluded that when worn together, the frequencies cancel each other out and fall to zero. The reason for this could be that the energy field of wool flows from left to right, while that of linen flows in the opposite direction, from right to left (this information can be used to influence the flow of Qi in the body). I wonder if this is the same reason the Old Testament God once declared, “You shall not wear cloth of wool and linen mixed together.” (Deuteronomy 22:11).

Disrupted Healing- Fabrics Neutralizing the Effects of Acupuncture

A compelling experiment by the Brisbane College of Traditional Acupuncture and Natural Therapies found that nylon underwear dramatically reduced the effectiveness of acupuncture. Acupuncture works by inserting small, flexible needles into energy points and meridians(or energy lines) to stimulate the bodies natural healing responses. As a highly effective therapy, acupuncture boasts a profound amount of applications ranging from chronic pain management to fertility support. In the study, a naked patient receiving needle stimulation registered 100 units of energy flow. When wearing nylon underpants, that dropped by up to 60%. Cotton reduced flow by 20%. Repetitive experiments demonstrated that if a patient wore nylon underwear while receiving acupuncture treatments, that patient would need twice as many treatments to get the same results.

Synthetic Materials Effect on our Health

As shown in the acupuncture experiments, synthetics like polyester, acrylic, and nylon disrupt our energetic body and electrical conductivity. But these materials also trap static, block breathability, and leach microplastics into our blood. Over time, this contributes to inflammation, fatigue, and a disconnection from the Earth’s potent healing energy.

Grounding with Earths Healing Energy

Grounding—also known as earthing—is the practice of making direct physical contact with the Earth to receive its negative ions. The Earth carries a natural negative charge, and when we connect to it, our bodies absorb free electrons. We want to absorb these free electrons to neutralize the buildup of positive ions we’re constantly exposed to. While the body naturally produces and utilizes positive ions in various processes, an overload or imbalance can lead to oxidative stress, potentially harming cells and contributing to diseases and cancers. Modern sources like EMFs, pollution, and radiation have increased our exposure drastically. A 2015 review published in the Journal of Inflammation Research (PMC4378297) highlights how grounding helps regulate immune responses, reduce pain, modulate inflammation, and speed up wound healing. Researchers suggest that this natural exchange of electrical energy helps rebalance the body on a cellular level, offering a simple yet powerful tool for restoring overall well-being from the (literal) ground up.

And that is exactly why I’ve been investing in natural materials —

Especially for the things that touch my skin every day. I’m not suggesting that you throw out your whole wardrobe and go full “au naturel”, but instead, to begin mindfully and slowly investing in pieces that make you feel good. As mainstream brands pick up on the trend, greenwashing and inflated prices are inevitable. That’s why I’m sharing what I’ve been loving: affordable, high-quality, natural fiber products that help us stay in health and harmony. Products that allow our energy to circulate, discharge, and realign.

#2. H&M Cotton and Linen Basics + Athleisure (under $50)

H&M carries 100% linen and cotton products for both men and women. They also carry blends, so always refer to the materials tag to ensure it’s not blended with synthetics.  H&M is one of the largest consumers of cotton, but 100% organic cotton only makes up 1% of all the cotton in use. As an effort to increase the supply of 100% organic cotton, H&M is a partner of the Organic Cotton Accelerator(OCA), an organization advancing farmer prosperity whilst creating a transparent, resilient, and responsible organic cotton supply chain.

After thoughts 💭

If you’ve ever felt uncomfortable, trapped, or suffocated in your clothes but haven’t known why, you might want to start reading your clothing labels. The answer could be as simple as the materials touching your skin!

Since I’ve made the shift towards natural fibers, I feel empowered in making the conscious decision to wear things that shift my energy into a higher (healing) frequency.

On days that I feel weak, cranky, or might be having an autoimmune flare up, I honor my healing journey by wrapping myself in natural adornments. The shift is palpable in both my body and energy field. It’s a small act with a powerful return. As I often say, “if you adore yourself, adorn yourself”.

Always, with love, Chloeandclover ☘︎ ݁˖⋆xoxo
